Our historic home airbases

Step into history and experience the thrill of flight from airfields steeped in aviation heritage. Our bases offer a unique blend of historical significance, modern facilities, and a vibrant flying community, ensuring your introduction to flying is truly unforgettable.

RAF Wickenby: a legendary bomber base

Our main base, RAF Wickenby, is more than just an airfield; it's a living piece of history. As a former bomber base during World War Two, it carries the echoes of brave airmen and the spirit of the RAF. We are proud to operate from this hallowed ground, offering you an unparalleled flying experience in Lincolnshire.

Visitors can explore the on-site museum, a testament to Wickenby's significant role in the war effort. The airfield buzzes with activity, featuring a captivating mix of vintage and contemporary aircraft, all set against a backdrop of rich heritage.

RAF Sturgate: our strategic alternative

When wind conditions necessitate a change of plans, RAF Sturgate serves as our excellent fallback. This airfield holds its own unique place in aviation history, having been one of the few USAF fighter bases in Lincolnshire and also home to Lancasters shortly after World War Two.

Sturgate allows us to complete your flying mission regardless of wind direction, ensuring continuity and flexibility in your training. Like Wickenby, it boasts an excellent café, perfect for refuelling before or after your flight experience.

Experience the heart of aviation

Both RAF Wickenby and RAF Sturgate offer more than just runways; they are communities passionate about flight. You'll find excellent cafes at both locations, perfect for relaxing and watching the diverse range of aircraft taking off and landing.

The pride, the people, and the presentation of our airbases truly make them stand out. We invite you to experience the rich heritage and vibrant atmosphere that makes Bomber County Flying School truly exceptional.
